The Southern Riverina Wellbeing Collaborative's aim is to boost the wellbeing of everyone in our community.

We want to create a resilient community, where people enjoy better mental and emotional wellbeing and are better equipped to deal with life's challenges. Supporting the health and happiness of each resident not only improves the quality of life for individuals but also enhances the overall fabric of the community. Healthier and happier people tend to be more engaged and productive, fostering a more vibrant and connected community.

What is wellbeing

Wellbeing is all about feeling happy, healthy, and content with your life. It means having a positive physical, mental, and emotional state, where you can enjoy and handle life's ups and downs.

Research has shown that wellbeing is important for happier, healthier living.

  • Improving well-being leads to increased happiness and life satisfaction, making your everyday experiences more joyful.

  • Prioritising wellbeing can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promoting a positive state of mind.

  • A focus on wellbeing can lead to better physical health, lowering the risk of chronic illnesses and increasing longevity.

  • Wellbeing enhances your ability to cope with life's challenges, making you more resilient in the face of adversity.

  • Improved wellbeing fosters better connections with others, contributing to healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Improving your wellbeing

Research suggests there are 5 main ways all that we can each improve and maintain a sense of wellbeing.

These have been explained extensively by 5 Ways to Wellbeing at 5waystowellbeing.org.au

We've explored the ways people in the Southern Riverina can introduce these practices below:

Connect

Connection is the cornerstone of our emotional wellbeing.

Building and maintaining meaningful relationships with family, friends, and our community is vital for our mental health. Cultivating strong connections can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, boost self-esteem, and provide emotional support during challenging times.

Family

Be active

Physical activity plays a significant role in enhancing your overall wellbeing. Regular exercise not only improves physical health but also has a positive impact on your mental state. It can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while increasing self-confidence and boosting your mood.

Keep learning

Continuous learning is a key component of wellbeing. It's not just about traditional education but also about seeking out new experiences and challenges. Learning can boost self-esteem, provide a sense of accomplishment, and keep your mind engaged and active.

Be aware

Being mindful is all about paying attention to the present moment. It's about appreciating the world around you, savouring the little things, and staying grounded in the now. Practising mindfulness can improve your mental clarity, lower stress levels, and increase your overall sense of well-being.

Help Others

Whether it's helping a friend, volunteering, or simply being kind to those you encounter, giving back can improve your mood, increase feelings of happiness, and create a sense of purpose in your life.
